John Thoburn

John Thoburn, MDiv, Ph.D. ABPP, co-editor of Clergy Sexual Misconduct, is a licensed psychologist and licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Washington. He is board-certified in couple and family psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a fellow of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Thoburn received a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology. Dr. Thoburn is an associate professor of clinical psychology at Seattle Pacific University. He is past president of Division 43 of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Family Psychology; past president of the American Academy of Couple and Family Psychology; and is currently on the Board of Trustees for the American Board of Professional Psychology. Dr. Thoburn has consulted for decades with churches on issues related to clergy formation, including clergy sexuality. He has conducted research and published numerous scholarly articles on clergy sexuality over the years and has made frequent presentations at regional and national conferences.
